Here are some tips:

Tested resistance can combat wind speeds of up to Beaufort 6 (strong breeze 24–31 mph).
A sturdier option for gusts is a wall-mounted pergola with ground-anchored support posts.
If there is a roof overhang to protect the fabric cover and folding arms, an open awning is an option.
If there is no protective eaves, a half or full cassette awning should be used.
In addition to providing shade from above, side screens can be installed for side sun protection, wind protection or privacy.
